Men Running/Walking

We again went to the Metropolitan Museum, around midday, and passed yet again along this fence (along 5th Avenue) around their huge project for a remodeled plaza and fountain. They have lined it with matched pairs of large reproductions of works from their collection--this is one such pair, with the museum's building in the background.

I can't identify the image on the right, but I think that on the left is one of Muybridge's photographic sequences of persons in motion, around the 1880's (though I haven't been able to confirm that; I'll continue to check).

At the Met, we mainly saw a superb exhibition on "The Civil War and American Art", which features paintings above all (it accompanies the show on photography and the Civil War which we saw yesterday).

In the afternoon we continued to the Guggenheim Museum a few blocks north, mainly for James Turrell's Aten Reign. It consists of pure light in the high rotunda of the museum--absolutely special and spectacular (the foregoing link includes an excellent video on the museum's site). Altogether an exceptional day experiencing wonderful art.
