Marjorie's ramblings

Sheltering in the shooters’ hut

Today’s walk was from the picturesque village of Blanchland and up onto the moors. The forecasted rain came in intermittent showers, but the high winds were with us all day. It was bracing!

There are enormous wide views from the moor tops. We used a shooters’ hut for lunch. There are long tables with forms to sit on. I was opposite the open door and enjoyed this view.

The moors are mainly bone dry, but Brian found a wet patch with round sundew growing healthily in it. See extra.

Areas of the heather have been burnt off and are not growing again yet. We saw a curlew and we walked carefully to avoid nests.

We returned to Blanchland via a riverside path and the meadows were looking good.

Finally we crammed into a small room at the Lord Crewe Arms for welcome drinks.
