Two tiny things

Two tiny things that provide a clue to what I have been doing today. I have been tackling some sorting in my room - three sewing drawers that missed my last sort and my desk top which had become the dumping ground for all sorts of stuff. And these are two things I found that I had no idea I had.

The sewing drawers were emptied, things thrown out and then some organisation. ( I do have to be a little careful now as I have a grandaughter who might one day like to inherit some of her grandma’s sewing stuff.)

Anyway, in the drawer full of machine sewing threads - a huge collection from all my years and years of sewing - I found this reel of cotton thread. It must have come from my mother as it is from the 1940s, as far as I can find out. The ‘6 cord’ refers to how sewing threads were made, threads twisted together to give a corded thread. I don’t think sewing threads are made in Great Britain any more!

Then I totally cleared and cleaned my desk top and that’s where I found the little container. It must have been there a long time and I have never noticed it. It is silver plated and most likely a pill box. It could be a snuff box but probably not deep enough. It is a little damaged and could do with a proper clean, but it is rather pretty. I can only think it was from my grandmother, but how I came to have it I do not know. I will clean it and find a use for it.

Now I have my computer back in place, all cleaned. but I have a mountain of other stuff that needs sorting and probably clearing out.
