Couples

HB came down and we went to Pallant house in the afternoon, despite us at least feeling a bit fragile after our incredibly late night.

The exhibition was called Seeing Each Other and was painters painting painters.  It had the pleasing effect of often showing couples or friends’ portraits of each other.  This meant the gender balance was good and the insights very personal.  This pair are paintings of, on the left Vera Cunningham by Matthew Smith and on the right Matthew Smith by Vera Cunningham.  They were lovers who left their partners and moved to Paris together.  Pallant House is such a great gallery and this was an inventive way of doing an exhibition.

Home for tea and we had a simple supper and a lot of laughs together in the evening.
