You Don't See One Of Those Every Day
I went to take the brass handles of the kitchen door before painting it.
I wish I hadn't come up with that plan!
The 'cut' in the tops are ridiculously thin and are more suited to a razor blade than a screwdriver.
Eventually I got 3 of them out ..... then the fight really started!
After lots of sweary words - and I mean LOTS! - I got the 4th one out.
My conclusion was that whoever put the damned things in used a hammer on it.
Then it was onto the other 4 on the other side of the door ...............
The only one that really fought back (I had learnt from the first lot) was the one in the extras box.
That one was on the opposite spot to the serpent in the lead shot.
After a bit of detective work I found that the screw length is half the thickness of the door when screwed in place ... in theory! However a couple of them were actually slightly longer then the others which would mean that should 2 of the longer ones be screwed in (slightly too tightly) directly opposite each other and perpendicular to the door, in theory they would be too long and the point would come together..... possibly resulting in an exasperated workman 'tapping' the one protruding with a hammer, resulting in my Blip.
I am going to use slightly shorted screws when replacing the handles!
In other news -- after collecting some more decorating supplies we stopped of at Grumpy Towers and had a good old natter and a cuppa with Mr & Mrs Grumpy (long overdue).
