Mixtures

The day started overcast, as has been the trend this week. I wanted to finish the weeding at the allotment so while Andy walked Merlin, I spent another morning at my plot. As well as weeding I gave the herb bed an overhaul, diving the thyme and removing dead parts, then planting a new broad-leaved thyme, Jekka’s thyme and silver posie thyme, along with a purple sage. As well as proving flavour for our food and drinks, they should produce lots of colourful flowers for bees and other insects to enjoy.

These love in a mist flowers fill the ground below some of my apple trees. They do a useful job of providing some colourful ground cover. I’m trying to mix vegetables, flowers and herbs in the beds more in the hope it supports the overall health of the plants. It’s working well so far.
