Evan and Auntie Fa

Evan’s family has been having a marathon run of flu, cold, allergy, and other mysterious illnesses, so I haven’t seen him since January, and it was a joy to have him with me for Baba Time today. His 10th birthday was two weeks ago, and this was our first chance to celebrate: toy store, gelato, Mexican food, and a little time on the piano. He plays by ear and has transcribed songs from Dead Cells, his favorite video game, for piano.

He was delighted by my Emotional Support Chicken, and when I told him her name is Auntie Fa, he said it aloud and suddenly GOT IT! “Antifa! You have a chicken named Antifa! Great, Baba!” We talked about politics, baseball, music, and language. He’s writing a graphic novel in both Spanish and English. All that, and he’s growing by the day. The top of his head is up to my earlobes now.

The day was also a Sitting for the collaborative project. I won't say her name, but she is the "spare human" for a dog named Bernie. (Extra.)
