Scripps Pier
It rained lightly overnight and this morning was cool and cloudy. After breakfast we left Tommy doing some work and Gavin and I went to a nearby shopping mall as I wanted to get some On shoes. With the current exchange rate they are cheaper here than in the U.K. and I found exactly what I wanted in the correct size.
People tend to drive everywhere rather than walk here as the distances are great and the roads are very good. Tommy, an absolute petrol head, is in heaven admiring all the cars we see when driving around - many Tesla Cyber trucks which we do not yet have in Europe, some very big V8 trucks, and a huge variety of cars. He seems to know the engine size and model of every car we see! There are a large amount of non American cars on the roads these days, Toyotas, Mercedes, Range Rovers etc when many years ago on our first trips to the US it seemed that the majority were American cars.
It was forecast to be sunny by late morning but it stayed cloudy and cool most of the day. After shopping we collected Tommy and went to La Jolla shore as I wanted to photograph Scripps Pier. You are not allowed on it as it is used by the Scripps Oceanography Institution for their research, but the under side of the pier is a popular photography location. We walked along the beach back to the restaurants and shopping area where we had tacos for lunch. I am loving the grilled fish tacos here, something I have not eaten before.
We then went to find the ‘potholes’ on the beach which are eroded rock pools, where I took more photos - see extra. By now it was sunny and it got very warm. We watched the sea lions, pelicans and Brandt’s cormorants who live in the La Jolla cove. The cormorants were either sitting on eggs or had chicks in their nests. They were very smelly and the sea lions are very noisy constantly barking at each other.
Adam had cycled to work today as his car is getting repaired, so we went to collect him from his apartment after work. He and Tommy went to the driving range at the lodge while Gavin and I relaxed before dinner, and then we returned to La Jolla Shore for supper at a very good Italian restaurant.
Tomorrow it is forecast to be sunny and warm, which we need as I am running out of warmer clothing.
