The Necromancer

We are very fortunate to have a couple in our camera club who take the most amazing ‘fine art’ portraits and wonderful composites, and today I attend a regional workshop run by them.  We learn about studio lighting and post-processing, and have the opportunity to photograph beautifully costumed modules in various settings.

I always feel very nervous in workshop situations, and this is exacerbated when needing to interact with models, giving instructions on expressions, movement etc.  I love portrait photography, but tend to prefer spontaneity rather than direction.  Talking to other participants, it seems I’m not alone, and we’re lucky that our models are good at improvising when we run out of creative ideas!

It’s a very enjoyable day, though I do find it very tiring, reinforcing my feeling that I’d find a residential workshop impossible to manage - at the moment at least!

Of course, the products of the workshop have to be the subject of today’s blip. Quickly processed in Lightroom for the moment - my favourites will need considerable work in Photoshop at a later date!
