Living my dream

There are still tomatoes ripening in the tunnel house.

It is due to the relatively benign autumn that the plants aren't completely dead, and the fruits haven't rotted on the trusses. I'm not sure I have ever been able to pick and eat tomatoes this late in the season before. It is a delight.

It rained all night and all morning. Everything was squelching underfoot when I got up, and there were wee streams running here, there and everywhere. The soil is absolutely sodden.

We need no more rain! Inevitably there is more in the forecast, but not for a few days. It looks likely that just as I want to get back into the garden next week the temperatures will plummet and it will be wet. Ah well, it will be winter from Sunday onwards...

I used the time while it poured outside to mix and prove two sourdough loaves and to make mayonnaise.

And I ran down to the garage to go soup-mining to the bottom of the freezer. I know I have some containers dating from 2022 and 2023 in the depths, and I came up clutching some Autumn Vegetable Soup from March 2023. Success. That will be tomorrow's lunch.

It is definitely soup season now. I have 80-odd containers to work my way through...

Anyone for soup?
