Home again

Richard met me at the station at a quarter to ten last night; just over 12 hours door-to-door from sunny Nimes.
Today I downloaded my camera images, and there'll be a few catch-up blips to follow I think.  Today's blip is a collage focused on the celebration of Sara, patron saint of Gypsies, which took place on Saturday.
The image on the left shows the dramatic (though fortunately slow!) lowering of a casket from the church roof, towards the waiting hands and candles of the congregation below (more on that tomorrow) . The middle image gives you something of a visual impression of Sara herself. The third one is from outside the church.
I'm not religious, though I went to Catholic schools for much of my education, and I have some understanding of Catholic traditions.  This day was remarkable for the sheer energy of the gatherings, and for the way in which the image of 'Sara la Noire' spoke for the inclusion of marginalised people. All of us, in the little photo group, found ourselves moved in ways that we hadn't anticipated.
