Olly came back (early!) this (bank holiday!) morning and made a start on the wall tiles in the little bathroom. But was thwarted by the gap round the edge of the floor tiles, which led them to keep sinking down. He filled the gap with adhesive and left it at that for the day - to be continued tomorrow...
