Duckweed Firetail...

Resting in our pond this morning, on a Florida Yellow Waterlily was this tiny, 0.98-1.22in (25-31mm) long beauty. She's a Duckweed Firetail (Telebasis byersi), a small species of damselfly. Mostly native to the southeastern U.S. and found in ponds and wetlands with lots of duckweed. They are sometimes spotted in Illinois and even as far west as New Mexico. Their Conservation status is: 'Secure'.  And on a personal note...this is one of my very favorite wild creature names!  Do take a look at the extra photo...  m
