Transported to the Caribbean!
Tuesday
The weather outside was dismal and wet, but at Music Live at Lunch today,
listening to the ensemble Bacchanal Steel Band, you could almost imagine you were in the Caribbean. There were two people playing steel drums, or pans, the guy on the left played the melody, while the lady on the right played harmony on twin pans. They were backed up by bass guitar and drums. It was a very good varied program, music interspersed with short episodes where he would talk about the steel drums and their origins. It’s remarkable to me how they can make melodic notes, by the way they beat out the bottom of a steel drum! Unfortunately, the close-up I took at the end of the interior of the drum didn’t turn out very clearly. On the last song, they had various other percussion “instruments” they handed out to those that wanted them. The top left, that one audience member was playing is actually a brake drum! This was the last Music Live at Lunch until the beginning of September.
In the afternoon, R and I both went swimming at the fitness center, 40 lengths for me.
