Cabbage Tree
This afternoon, on returning from the Post Office, I was stopped in my tracks by the sight of this stunning New Zealand Cabbage Tree (or Ti kouka to the Maoris) in a neighbour's garden. The flowers are scented but as it was raining I couldn't detect their perfume; I''ll return tomorrow when it's drier.
Wed. I can confirm the flowers are sweetly scented.
I then went to check on Stormin Norman, and found him under an apple tree, fast asleep, but soaking wet. I picked him up to put him in his house in his bed of hay, whereupon he extended his head from his shell, to reveal he was wearing a small slug on the top of his head! Poor fellow; what ignominy for a tortoise!
