Schloss Charlottenburg
Our last day as we take a late flight back to Bristol tonight.
This morning we took the U-Bahn to the suburb of Charlottenburg named after the above palace. Schloss Charlottenburg was built by Frederick I (King of Prussia) in 1695 for his wife Sophie Charlotte as her summer home. Since then it has been extended. The original Old Palace in the middle contains many royal apartments and Baroque rooms and displays of porcelain, silver and golden treasures. Extra: a very decorated room!
We then returned to the centre and had a snack in a chain fish fast-food cafe. Across the road was an ancient church with the TV tower "balancing" on its spire.
The last photo is of some graffiti near the entrance of a U-bahn. We then had a drink, collected our bags from the hotel and travelled to the airport which is a nightmare to fly from as there were no staff to ask; the "All flights" entrance was closed so we had to ask a porter who said "No 5" right down the other end, x-rays and immigration were also in very disjointed areas and it is a very new airport! Arrived home safely at 12.30 am.
