A rather eventful day
This year is racing along at an alarming pace, and I am not sure what to think about it. May 26? What the…?
Got up reasonably early and managed to start work on a book review I promised in a moment of weakness. I actually made a fair bit of progress on it and had completed the first draft by 11:30. The problem is, of course, that I am not getting paid for it. My justification today was that it is keeping my hand in – and should the situation ever arise when I actually do get asked to do something that pays me, then I won’t be shell shocked.
Lovely morning – warm and sunny with a nice breeze. Spent a bit of time in the garden checking my quotes and then with Mrs. Ottawacker for lunch. Well, she had lunch, I sat there like a stunned mullet. Today is the Liverpool parade, and by that I mean the parade put on for Liverpool winning the league. I heard there was an incident of sorts with a car being driven into the crowd. No further information yet. That sort of behaviour is an absolute stain on the conscience of humanity.
Spent more time doing the 2015 photo album. I’d actually forgotten that we went to Europe in late October of that year – so it has been pretty nice to look at the pictures from the trip, with Ottawacker Jr. being 2 and discovering so many things for the first time. Pretty sobering to think of the number of people who are no longer here though.
Late afternoon, drove Ottawacker Jr. and Mrs. Ottawacker to Elizabeth Manley Park, where the BU13 had their home opener against St. Anthony’s. Did his warm-ups and then chatted with Thomas, Lucas’s dad, who managed to upturn a pan of boiling oil onto his arm. Second-degree burns, a great deal of pain, and he has to put up with his wife’s cooking until it has healed. He said that, not me. She agreed :)
The game was a pretty comfortable 4-1 win for the Internationals: only disappointment was that Ottawacker Jr. didn’t get his second consecutive clean sheet, conceding the goal a couple of minutes from the end. It’s interesting watching the team adjust to 11 vs. 11 games, the offside rule, and full-sized pitches. On top of that, they were playing on grass for the first time this season, which totally changes the game.
Home to further news about the Liverpool parade. Transpires someone was tailgating an ambulance and deliberately drove into the crowd. Astounding, miraculous almost, that there are not more casualties.
