Trying to learn from the master!

Over the past few days I have been reading up on the work of Ansel Adams and this gave me the idea of trying to emulate his style.  I don’t regard myself as a landscape photographer never mind an Ansel Adams.  However this morning I was passing close to this place and made a short detour to Island Hill to see what it had to offer.  The tide was fully out, the sky was overcast with well diffused light, although it was by means a spectacular light.  In the process of crossing the causeway I noticed Scrabo Tower and traces of rain in the clouds, so this is what I concentrated on.

Ansel Adams took great care to emphasise black in his images through to pure white, so I tried to do the same and in processing the image I used a red filter.  Unlike Ansel Adams I cropped out the immediate foreground, which did nothing for the image.    As my photographic friends know I rarely crop, so this is an exception!  This place can be photographed in so many ways as the light and tide constantly change through out the daily cycle.
