Shingling

As a reward for dog sitting, driving, shopping, cooking etc this weekend, I got to choose the destination for our Day Out. I chose Shingle Street. Why? Not much there, you might think, but a line of cottages and a pebbly beach. Well…the beach was dog- friendly, which many Suffolk beaches aren’t, the car park was free, and there were no Bank Holiday crowds. The beach was home to a host of wild flowers - sea kale, red valerian, mullein, Mediterranean spurge, yellow horn poppy and blueweed, to name a few. The skies were big and the clouds amazing. And then there was the shell line…

Twenty years ago, a couple of friends who had both survived breast cancer started a line of whelk shells. You can read more about it and see a lovely wee documentary at this link - http://outhousefilmworks.uk/c-shells/

D, S, C and the dogs stayed by the shore at the end of the line while I went for a walk. I headed south and suddenly it was just me and the sea. A very peaceful and healing place.

This is our last night in Suffolk. It’s been a good place to spend the holiday weekend :-)

And for those who are wondering…the Legendary Len Fallick crossed the finish line with 15 minutes to spare.
