Irises at Nuffield Place

Had a lovely bank holiday slow start. Visited Nuffield Place and had a guided tour round the house. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. We were not quite brave enough to ask about the former owner's relationship with fascism - he is better known now for his very large charitable donations. There was some evidence on the bookshelves which was not hidden, but just not mentioned. An early iron lung was also on display. His factories made them and sent them to hospitals that needed them for polio patients free of charge.
The garden was beautiful. These irises were alive with bees and were looking particularly bright in the dull skies.
