The Harsh Realities of Songbird Life

Our Eastern Bluebirds and our Tree Swallows have abandoned thier nests and switched boxes! On advice from an expert, I removed the dead bluebird eggs from what is now the tree swallow box. The swallows had already started building a new nest on top of the old bluebird one, so it was a bit messy. Meanwhile, the Bluebirds had removed the six Tree Swallow eggs on their own, so I pulled out the remaining feathers (swallows feather their nests, bluebirds don't) and put everything back as neatly as I could.

Here's wishing the birds better luck this time around.
