Patent-leather Beetle

This is a horned passalus beetle. Sometimes called the patent-leather beetle. They mostly spend their lives under the bark of rotting stumps and the like. This one was ousted from its home by The Husband who was cleaning up some chunks of wood he had left sitting around for years. Now he feels guilty about it...

It's a pretty big beetle - over an inch long.
