St. Joe’s
Since we were at the concert/BBQ last night, hubby and I were up at 6:00 am to attend 8:00 Mass at St. Joseph’s. It is located about two miles from the farm as the crow flies, 14 miles via vehicle and takes about 40 minutes to get there on winding ridge roads. It is a beautiful small country church where one priest serves four local churches. Here is some info I found on the web about it. “Along with many other conservative German Roman Catholic families, the Frohnapfel family immigrated to this part of West Virginia in the 1850s and established a community centered on the Catholic church they built and that still is in use. It is located on Frohnapfel Street near Proctor, WV. It is appropriately named St. Joseph Catholic Church and the surrounding neighborhood community is called the St. Joseph Parish. The St. Joseph church has acted as both a religious and social center since the area was settled and it remains important today. Family reunions and country dances were often held on church property or in the church hall several times a year.” - excerpts from Tyler Star News. The parishioners are quite welcoming. We used to attend that church regularly. Unfortunately, one part of the road “slipped down the side of the ridge” and it was hardly navigable. A resident informed us that the road has been somewhat repaired so we decided to go there today. My sister and BIL were busy housecleaning and mowing the lawn while we were gone. I washed a load of laundry and helped in the kitchen. Hubby finished mowing and folded the laundry. We had leftover burgers for lunch. I made a cheeseburger salad with mine again- think that’s how I will eat burgers now. We cleaned up and visited our neighbor; the guys took a ride on their ATV’s. The weather has moderated so we spent part of the afternoon in chairs on the front patio. Our BIL will grill steaks to go with our baked potatoes and asparagus for dinner. It sure has been a pleasant Sunday. Hope you can say the same. Stay safe. Thanks for stopping by. “Christian community is the place where we keep the flame of hope alive among us and take it seriously so that it can grow and become stronger in us.” - Henri Nouwen
