Sir Stanley Scarecrow

Last night I played for a ceilidh in Stoke on Trent.  We had a good time and a full hall of dancers was great to see with the bonus of tea and homemade cake in the interval.

There must have been a scarecrow festival in the area as this scarecrow of the famous footballer, Sir Stanley Matthews, was outside the village hall. 

He was born in Stoke on Trent and played for Stoke City for 18 years so was a real son of the area. Apparently he played at top level until he was 50 years old and was the only footballer to be knighted while still playing.
