Drill Hall buckets

The first of our two outings today was to the Drill Hall in Dalmeny Street to visit an exhibition hosted by the Royal Scots Regiment about the Quintinshill rail disaster in 1915. On hand were ex-servicemen who elaborated on the content of the displays. It was all incredibly moving. I was in tears when one of the guides explained that earlier in the week a visitor had pointed to the name of one of the soldiers who had perished in the accident, then stated that he had been named after him, his uncle.

Also at the exhibition were staff available to help visitors with questions about military history and genealogy associated with servicemen. I took advantage of this to ask about Lorna Lloyd's father, who was stationed in Stirling soon after the end of the First World War. Although the staff were not able to find anything specific about Bertie, one told me that much decommissioning of WW1 ammunition was carried out in Stirling. Given Bertie's experience with the service corps, it is likely that he was there to help with this.

Our second outing of the day was to John Lewis. Here I bought a pair of smart navy blue sandals to wear to events next month and in September, and some underwear.

Between the two outings I caught up on admin, sorted through some clothes (some relegated to the charity shop bag), and spoke to walkingMarj on the phone.

The buckets in my blip are decorations in the Drill Hall.

Exercise today: walking (12,404 steps).
