GILBERT! O'Sullivan! That's the name of the bloke in the stupid cap, I suddenly remember. I share this with Claire, who looks more puzzled than ever. 'I thought that was two guys, though?' she says in that funny questioning way all students seem to have. 'Anyway, I'm not really into opera.' Now it's my turn to be confused. Gilbert O' Sullivan? Opera? I mean, I never liked him - but there are limits. 'Once upon a time, I drank a little wine, was as happy as can be, happy as can be?' I sing to her. Sort of fits the situation somehow, and I start to giggle - but all she does is look blankly at me. I'm getting this feeling like she's starting to sober up a bit and she thinks the night's getting a wee bit
