VE 2025
The day started with me deciding to stay abed, gathering strength for a busy few days. Once up I sorted out clothes for the next three days, dressed up celebratory, funereal, and relaxed celebratory.
After breakfast, ironed then Did the ironing then strolled down to Margiotta to get rolls for tomorrow's lunch.
The sun was out and it was another beautiful day in my suntrap so I sat outside, once again in shorts, and sewed. I almost finished but I've a wee bit still to do.
Got changed (dressed up celebratory) and driver down to the Manor. Of course I was far too early but got Mum into her dressed up celebratory and had some desultory conversation till three Sainsbury's' delivery arrived. I should have been practising using the stair climber after a 5 month break, as a later event confirmed.
Then we got picked up and whisked off to the Usher Hall. It wasn't as well organised as I'd anticipated (the welcoming Veterans bit) and the Mezzo reception suite is an odd shape and very hot, not helped by the beautifully warm evening. But over the course of the evening Mum met the Lord Provost, Neil Gardner from Canongate who baptised the girls, the First Minister, the Defence Minister (a Lord no less) and of course, Karen, the Legion's Chaplain.
The concert was excellent and Mum's bit on the big screen can't across very well. At the end of the segments about the veterans the audience stood and applauded Mum. There were 8 veterans there but Mum was the only woman who had served in the Forces, the WRNS. The other woman in the group (103) was a war widow. Mum enjoyed the concert and the Prosecco.
We didn't get back till 10.30 and it was 11 before I left the Manor. Sent some pics to family and I may post some extras later.
But tomorrow is now today.
