Bisbee Turquoise Focal Donut Necklace
Bisbee Arizona is known for its rich copper deposits made more available when the railroad came through in 1889. The ore mining was so extensive that the land shrunk into a 1000 foot deep pit covering over 300 acres. Nicknamed the "Lavender Pit" it has become a tourist destination with rim viewing platforms and guided tours. In its day the mine yielded large amounts of the hardest most brilliant blue turquoise with a dark chocolate matrix which is exceptionally beautiful and unparalled with any turquoise found anywhere in the world. This focal disc in this necklace is rare as the mines nestled among the Mule Mountains of southeast Arizona closed in the 1970s.
19" long beaded necklace with 2-1/2" Sterling chain extension.
