Shopping and hospital.
We did the weekly shop at Tesco this morning and this afternoon I had an appointment at the Eye Clinic.
The appointment was for 14:30 and I got there a few minutes early. There weren't that many people in the waiting room so I hope I wouldn't be there long. I was soon called in to do the sight test and then was to sit back in the waiting room till I was called "to see the doctor".
At half past three I was about to ask if they had forgotten me. the Eye Clinic nearly always runs very late and they have the delay times on display either on the white board or on a screen. Today there was nothing - for "Delays" it was blank.
At 15:30 I was about to ask if they'd forgotten me as everyone who had been in the waiting room when I arrived had been in, come out and gone home and lots of the newer attendees had also been dealt with. Just before I got up to ask they posted the delays! Everything was running on time apart from the doctor I was due to see and he had a delay of 1 hour and ten minutes! This meant I should be going in after another ten minutes - I was a bit miffed because if I had known of the delay I could have nipped to Costa coffee on the ground floor or gone to the canteen. I waited. At 16:10 I asked the desk people if I had been forgotten and they looked at me like I had two heads - how dare I ask! Anyway, one of them went not so happily to find out and said there was one more patient before me. They ALWAYS say this!
I got called in at 16:25 and saw a doctor who was not the consultant I was supposed to be seeing. I was told totally different information from my last visit. He said the cataract on my left eye is not a problem because the sight in both my eyes is practically the same now. I don't have a clue how he deduced that since it's not! My sight test was conducted with my distance glasses on - maybe he thought I had none on! The lens for the right eye is barely doing anything and the one for the left is strong. Perhaps I should have queried things more (I did tell him that the consultant had said my next visit would be to discuss having the cataract removed from my left eye) but I was totally fed up after the long wait and was having to bite my tongue re wasted time. I will receive an appointment for three months time he said - we'll see!
The main photo is one I took in the grounds of our hospital. The gardens are always lovely and well cared for.
