Yet another wisteria photo!
I couldn’t resist a last photo as the flowers are dropping fast now.
I’ve been putting off deep cleaning the hen house, but today was the day! Usually I just pick up the poo and fluff the hay up in the nesting boxes, but today I shovelled out all the sand.
There used to be straw on the floor of the hen house, but reading a blog from the US it was suggested that sand is better, as the straw absorbs moisture and goes mouldy, which is true.
The sand keeps the hens feet cleaner and it’s easier to pick up the poo, which I then add to the compost, so that’s how I’ve done it ever since. Unfortunately I can’t lift the bags of sand (which could be why I got a hernia and had to have an operation two months ago!) so Mr F has to buy it and put it down.
So now you know all about mucking out hens! In other news, my youngest brother has become a grandad!
