one day in France

French Scarecrow

Elvis, who barked at a bag of rubbish yesterday, wasn’t at all bothered by the scarecrow we saw on our walk this morning,
In the background you can see a rather controversial house which is evolving. A local farmer’s son bought the derelict house nearby, which he has done up very nicely in a traditional way, but he couldn’t afford 50 grand extra for the barn.
The barn was bought by someone else who immediately put a holiday cabin next to it. We wondered if they were going to stay in it while they did up the barn, but no. They haven’t touched the barn, but have clad the holiday cabin with insulation, installed air con, and now they are attaching planks to make it look like a rustic building!
We hear on the grapevine they don’t have a septic tank though, and as we aren’t on mains drainage round here, the farmer’s son reports that he can’t sit in his garden due to the pong from his neighbour!
Luckily we are far enough away not to suffer the same, but as we have all recently had letters from the commune saying that our tanks are due an inspection, we’re wondering if they’ll get found out!
