Starling ( Sturnus vulgaris )
A busy day. In the morning I was playing photographers assistant for Clickychick. Before she closed the studio she was commissioned to take photos of a firms staff for their website. Now when they get new staff she is still asked to take the photos. So we loaded all the gear into the car went to their head quarters and took the shots then home for lunch.
After lunch it was my usual Thursday afternoon with Kanyl. Knowing I was occupied all day I was out in the garden early, well early for me.The Starlings are now feeding young so there are regular visits. Coming in they don't hesitate. Going out you get a little warning as a head appears for a second or so before take off. I assume the peek out is to scan for predators. Coming out they seem to always take the same track. So camera on burst, finger down and pan!
Oh the adult by the way is carrying a faecal sac from one of the young. Faecal sac. Faecal sacs are the birds version of a nappy. They are gelatinous coating round waste so that they can be removed from the nest keeping it hygienic.
