This is the day

Heaven on earth

I went for a walk early this morning before it got too hot. (Did I really just type those words, here in the English Lake District on 1st May?). My intention was to take some photos in the little cemetery at Chapel Stile behind the primary school.

To reach the cemetery, which is tucked away out of sight, I had to go through an unmarked five bar gate and then walk down a grassy path bordered by a dry stone wall on one side and a copse on the other, from which some glorious birdsong was emanating. ’Twas a willow warbler, according to Merlin, and I was utterly entranced.

Unfortunately, when I arrived at the entrance gate to the cemetery there was a van parked up on the grass outside, laden with gardening equipment, and a dog was lying asleep behind the closed gate. I decided not to disturb it, knowing I could return another day, so I continued walking around the village, practising various techniques that I’ve been learning on YouTube for shooting in full sun (with limited success).

So here you have the the little church of Holy Trinity, Chapel Stile nestling on the side of the fell just above the village. A little piece of heaven on earth.
