Thrang Burial Ground

The weather continues to be just perfect – blue skies, lots of sunshine and a gentle breeze. I made a repeat visit to the Thrang Burial Ground in Chapel Stile this morning and this time I had the place to myself. It’s the most perfect location for a cemetery, so peaceful, and with marvellous views across the fells.

I have put a few other shots in extras, including one of the grave of the late Josefina de Vasconcellos, the eminent sculptor, whose works are displayed in St. Paul’s, Liverpool, Coventry and Gloucester cathedrals, among other places, as well as locally in Cartmel Priory (which we have seen). She lived most of her working life in Little Langdale.

Oh, and I simply have to tell you, I saw a kingfisher again today! We had just walked back from having lunch at Brambles Café in Chapel Stile and, as we walked past the Great Langdale Beck, I said to Smithers that ever since I saw the kingfisher on Monday I can’t stop looking at the beck in case I see another one.

We walked in to our lodge, stepped out on to the balcony and woooooosh! – right in front of us – one swooped upstream again. I yelled “Kingfisher!” but sadly it was already out of sight and once again Smithers missed it.
