It's supposed to be
a warm one today - even
warmer for Friday!

I was on my way to McArthur Island Park at 6:30. While backing out the car I managed to startle our neighbourhood chukars who scattered in all directions. No chance of a photo with them today.

I drove into the park on the east side and was surprised to find that portion of the slough is now flooded. The reflections there were lovely on this sunny start to the day.

I moved over to the north side to find two does beside the walkway. One strolled off into the underbrush while the other sat peacefully in shadow.

I drove on to the footbridge to find a heron poised for hunting. I watched it slowly tiptoe through the shallow water. Then it suddenly rose up over the footbridge to land at a spot on the shore near the Butterfly Garden. I walked to the north end of the bridge to get a shot of my mountains, but I couldn't find the heron.

My last stop was the southside of the park beside the river. Several marmots were out and about. They scampered back to the safety of the riverbank and trees when I approached. I had to wait quietly and patiently for them to peer out. Then I found one brave marmot huddled on a tree stump warming in the sun. I caught him first in the long shot looking across the river to downtown, then got his portrait shot.

I'm booked for an appointment at the car dealership midday. There's an upgrade to my car's software that needs to be done. Hopefully, the rest of the day is mine without interruptions.
