Disaster - water through the ceiling
New shower - and stress beyond belief!
I turned on the 'all singing, all dancing shower' ... then disaster ... a gurgling sound before water came through the ceiling spotlights - first one, then all 3. Unable to turn the shower off, I woke G. Fire alarm started, and water started to come through the downstairs ceiling into the hall. G dressed and went outside to turn the water off in the road.
Now, with mains electricity and water both turned off, we still had buckets of water and towels in place, collecting leaks, both upstairs and down. I frantically called plumber James, messaged boss Paul and emailed the office. 7 am it started and both vans arrived at 9 am. Problem identified ... the high quality shower unit in the loft, had blown. First time that both James and Paul had seen it and both found it difficult to fathom. We were reassured, and after the pipes were capped up in the loft and fire alarms quietened, we had a plan in place. We were left with an industrial sized dehumidifier to dry us out, James planned to return tomorrow to install a new shower pump and make good the bathroom ceiling.
Now about 2 pm and time for lunch, a chance to relax and some reflection. Thankful that James arrived promptly, that G knew how to turn the mains water off in the road, that James and Paul were so apologetic and that there is a plan in place to sort everything tomorrow.
Evening Spanish class, and first one of the Summer term was just what I needed.
