Freeze branding….

A busy one today. Had the outside cattle done then everything fed before Stevie arrived at 9am to pregnancy test my cows . Him and Kev were filling them up the race , me doing the paperwork and Charlie clipping their freeze brands so I could read them . We had 145 done by 11.30 when the freeze brander turned up to do the in calf heifers next door. After a few initial problems with the new headstock on the crush we had them done by 1 pm. 1 not in calf from 27 so she will be fattened up and down the road at some point.
The extra shows Stevie with his arm and scanner probe where the sun doesn’t shine, and the other one is using the Easy Boss E which is a hook shaped metal tube that goes in the cows mouth which they chew on to calm them down and distract them from what’s going on . Seems to work too.
Another 2 cows calves tonight , but not sure if they have sucked yet , so tomorrow might be another one of those days !
