Except For Access For Sherlock, Aylesford

The past couple of days have been really warm so this morning we set out for our run quite early at about 6.45. It was lovely and cool and quieter then when we normally  go at  about 9. The morning was spent making an apple and rhubarb tray bake with a meringue and biscuity topping. From start to finish it took well over two hours and involved a lot of whisking of egg whites (don't have a proper blender so had to do this by hand - it took forever to reach the firm peak stage!). Luckily, it came out well so all the effort was worth it.
After all that activity we decided to head down to the village and have a drink at our village pub. We sat outside soaking up the sun by the river while supping our pints. The village is where I took today's image looking up the High Street. The silhouette in the window is, of course, of Sherlock Holmes and this building used to house a very idiosyncratic restaurant named after him. We went there a few times over the years and the food and atmosphere were always fantastic. Unfortunately it closed down in 2017 due to the ill health of one of the owners so now all that is left is this etched design on the windows. What I also liked was the reflection of the buildings opposite in the silhouette and this reminded me of another aspect of Sherlock - his mind palace. In the stories and episodes of the television programme it became a technique for memorising large amounts of information by placing facts into locations inside an imaginary "palace" in his mind. The red of the sign and the red car in the background helped me complete the composition.
The afternoon was spent making a sausage casserole for our evening meal and watching a brilliant documentary about Pauline Black, the lead singer with the two tone band Selecter.
