Friday -- Blue beneath the Canopy

This photo was captured in the late afternoon light. I was especially interested in the blue sky beneath the canopy of clouds. The little bit of blue is were the highway turns and goes away from the coast and toward San Luis Obispo.

We knew this would be a get out early morning because the Catholic church down the street was having a thrift sale in their parking lot starting at 8:00 this morning. We’ve been watching them set it up for the past three days and we had seen a small desk, student-sized, that looked like it would sit in a corner where Mr. Fun had his computer set on a card-table. We weren’t sure what else might be at parking lot sale, but we wanted to see.

We got there about 7:40 and several other early shoppers were there too. The small desk was marked for $25.00. As soon as Mr. Fun learned that all the drawers worked well, he asked them to mark it “sold.” Then I found an ottoman that I thought would work well in front of our futon, and Mr. Fun found a nice oak chair, with armrests and seat cushion. We paid for those three items, put them in the back of the CR-V and we were headed for home.

Mr. Fun  brought the ottoman and oak chair upstairs; then started immediately toward refinishing the desk and managed to get the drawers painted.

After that we decided to take a drive north to Cambria; on our way past the Catholic Church, he stopped again to speak with the woman who told him that she had an antique store in Cambria. He wanted to ask her exactly where. She had found some Steinbeck books after we left earlier in the day and decided to keep them in case we stopped at the parking lot sale again. So Mr. Fun purchased three Steinbeck books for a buck each! The three books are from a set of six books. Later he found the set on the Internet and it was priced at over $100.00. Wow! He was still on a hunt for one specific Steinbeck book, so to Cambria we went.

We had a fun late afternoon in Cambria wandering through the antique store. I can hardly believe all the stuff in those places. He did not, though, find the book he was looking for.

Then we stopped to have some ice cream at the Village Bean and then we drove to the library and to the Used Book Store that is just a couple buildings beyond the library. Again just looking for the Steinbeck book.

After that we decided to get a bite to eat for dinner before driving back to Cayucos. We stopped at Linn's Garden Restaurant and each enjoyed a delicious pot pie -- his was beef and mine chicken. We were so stuffed that we decided to skip any dessert, plus we'd had ice cream earlier.

This has been a fabulous Friday.
