The Chips are Downed
The most beautiful Spring day again with warm sun and cool breeze. There were lots of visitors to the forest all enjoying the smell of warm pine, but I was stuck indoors most of the day either in the shop or continuing with IT based mandatory training. Today - the thrilling subject of Data Protection.
However, there's always a good view out of the window.
There has been little rain overall despite the last week's cloudy days and the dead bracken is still tinder dry. Wild campers were out in force in the Ennerdale valley, which is against the bylaws in itself, although many leave no footprint. However, there is still the minority who deliberately subjugate common sense and ignore signage, lighting open fires, leaving litter and making little attempt at discreet sanitary arrangements.
Explanatory conversation by our Ranger on patrol today was met with derision, which you might say adds oil to flame.
'Heavenly Fish and Chips' van was on hand at the Sailing Club to feed all the happy campers in the balmy evening. The view never ceases to make good food taste even better and tonight we were entertained by the annual 'egg dump' competition. 127 hard boiled eggs were handed out and, in pairs, one competitor attemps to crack another's, without dinting their own. My egg was cracked first time, although A and P were very chuffed to get through to the third round!
I still feel though that using uncooked eggs would have made it more of an experience.
Happy Easter!
