Easter, Rose's, Quirkle
We did garden work through the day. Jan mostly raked and tidied, and I mostly sawed, split, and organised firewood for next winter.
Mid-afternoon we came in, washed, changed into our smarter clothes and headed of to Rose's for a traditional Swedish Easter smörgasbord. (As Eric commented, rather similar to the Christmas smörgåsbord, and the Midsummer smörgåsbord.) However, I reckon it's similar because why change a delicious food concept! There are slightly more eggs at easter, slightly more meats at Christmas, and perhaps slightly more schnapps at Midsummer, but there is something for everyone. Sometimes this isn't true if you don't eat meat because it was traditonally a rather meat and fish orientated meal but these days there are usually vegetarian options.
My picture today is of the drinks table where we started, rather than the food spread I could have pictured, but this was my best picture of the group. It was a fairly sober event as three of us were not drinking and the others are all sober types!
We finished off the evening with a game of Quirkle where we discovered Rose's daughter, Magdalena, was very competitive and very good at such games. Rose's granddaughter, following in her mother's footsteps, was just as competitive and nearly as good. These two Quirkle beginners came first and second, but most importantly the game was fun and there was a lot of laughter.
It was an excellent evening and we were very happy to have been included in the family gathering. To finish off a very good day we saw the Northern Lights as we drove home, but that was after midnight and is tomorrow's blip!
