Rice To See You... To See You Rice
My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,
Today was a really good day. Things seemed to align.
For one thing, the new rice cooker arrived at the store. I wasn't VERY excited about this. Given the non-working of the previous one, and the fact they made me get EXACTLY the same make/model again* I was a bit grumpy.
But actually, I had a nice walk. I checked out the stores and bought Caro a cream cake. And when I got home...
IT'S ALIVE! IT'S ALIIIIIIIIIVE! NOW I KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE GOD!!!
I feel better. You know how when you buy a thing and it doesn't work and you think it's you? This new rice cooker vindicated me.
I have been validated by an appliance.
Other good things that happened today:
- Caro had arranged for our power, our phones and our internet to be switched to a new provider. I was in charge of doing the internet and it switched over without a hitch! Caro told me I was a clever boy.
I have been validated by internet things.
- My GST bill came in. It was WAYYYY lower than I was expecting.
Not paying excessive tax is good.
- Caro got to come home early!
I was not expecting this but she said the funeral home is really quiet* and so she was allowed to leave an hour early.
Caro ate her cream bun. I made fried rice for dinner. Cats came and went. Everyone was really happy.
Who would've thought a rice cooker could make everything better? Rice is magic.

* I got served by the world's laziest assistant and he wasn't even a teenager! He was like a middle-aged dude! When I returned the defective rice cooker I asked if I could exchange it for another.
"Yeah... but then I'd have to look... see if we've got one..." he explained.
So when he went to ask his boss what to do, I went and looked myself.
"Good news!" I told him. "You've got another rice cooker over there that's just $20 more so I could pay the difference, and..."
He sighed.
"But that's a whole OTHER process," he said. "Look, I'll just order the exact same one again and you can go about your day."
He gave me a look that insinuated the Whole Other Process could involve HOURS of form-filling. And I couldn't be &rsed.
** She didn't say it was dead at the funeral home which was a missed opportunity in my opinion.
