Over Yonder

Three's A Crowd

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,

This is Lee-Ann and Lucy. I am very fond of both of them.

Lee-Ann you already know about. Lucy I might have mentioned once or twice but she made an impression.

She is very enthusiastic and friendly with an exuberant laugh.

"Ohh that's my ADHD kicking in," she giggles, infectiously.

This revelation did not surprise me. I seem to make friends with ADHD people very easily. I myself have something of a hummingbird brain and can keep up with their wild leaps in logic.

It is magical and wonderful to me. I guess some people don't like it? But I love Ellie and I love Shenée and suspect I may have mild, undiagnosed ADHD myself. So it did not surprise me that I LOVED Lucy, whose favourite phrases it seemed to me were, "Oh gosh!" and "Oh wow!"

But I am talking about her in the past tense. This is because she is shortly due to leave on maternity.

Times three.

Yes.

TRIPLETS.

"Triplets could only happen to you Lucy," said Marty her boss, making it sound like having three babies at once was an act of eccentricity on her part. He also pointed out that he knew she was competitive but had no idea she would want to "leap-frog" the traditional parents in the room.

"It's taken Dean five years to have three children," Marty noted. "Relatively sluggish by comparison."

It was a very impressive leaving speech. I'm not kidding. It was actually funny and affectionate and touching.

Not only THAT, but he then played guitar and sang "What's Up?" by Four Non Blondes with subtly changed lyrics.

And they cry
Oh my god how they cry
And Lucy feels like she's in an institution

"You're supposed to be making her feel GOOD about triplets!" heckled Lee-Ann. But in fact nearly all the jokes in her leaving speech (and song) were about how tired and knackered she was about to be. And it was in this point that Marty segued into "3am" by Matchbox 20.

And she said, "Babies,
It's three a.m and you must be hungry"

It was really lovely. And Lucy cried. And then Lee-Ann gave her a HUGE lot of presents from our team. And Lucy cried some more.

It was so nice. I'm going to miss Lucy but oh gosh oh wow I'm sure I'll see her around occasionally.

S.
