Cherry blossoms (Prunus Kanzan blossoms)
The cherry blossom trees around me are in full bloom at the moment, so I wanted to photograph them before they start to wither. In the village of Cobham there are 46 cherry blossom trees planted in an Avenue of Remembrance, one for every soldier from the village who died in WWII. These trees were re-planted in 2018 and this year they are starting to give a good display again. It's a pity that when they have the memorial service there in November these trees look quite spindly and not very attractive without their beautiful blossoms. Each of these trees has a metal collar on them with the name of each serviceman. I took photos of these trees on the weekend. In extras is a photo I took on the weekend of the metal tags.
The tree I photographed today is much bigger than those newly planted ones, and is just down the road from my house. It too has a metal tag on it in honour of someone who died, as a memorial from all her friends. It is a magnificent deep pink and I pass it most days and it certainly catches your eye as you drive past.
Tonight our camera club meeting is a zoom talk by Ruth Grindrod. I suggested it to our programme secretary and I am hoping it will be a good talk as her work is quite beautiful.
Gavin stayed up to watch the end of the Masters golf and so got to bed very late - I woke up when he came to bed so it was a late night for me too! He is delighted that Rory McIlroy won.
I started watching This City of Ours on BBC which I am enjoying, although I do struggle to understand those Liverpudlian accents.
