I thought I knew what I was doing

when I ordered a whole lot of stuff to make a wire trellis for the wall and overhead, but when it all arrived yesterday and I unpacked it I realised I didn't. So this morning I took most of it back then spent a lot more time reading about how to make a robust trellis.

What I did have right (I think) are the vine eyes, even though I ordered far too many, and I spent this afternoon drilling holes for, then screwing in, 21 of them. Seven were at a height that makes me dizzy and I bailed on only one of those so I'm feeling quite proud of myself (I was very careful). There are six more at the same height to do tomorrow, then I have to wait for the re-ordered components (wire rope, turnbuckles...) to arrive.

A few weeks ago I planted a rose that has grown from the cutting I made from my predecessors' 'pergola' and it's now itching to climb, so I hope I can give it a home it enjoys very soon.

(Yes, I know some of them are out of true, but I hope the rose will hide that.)
