Leaving ...
... Lake Lure.
We left Lake Lure this afternoon to start our journey home. We will be stopping in Staunton, VA for the night so as to break up the long drive home.
But since we didn't need to leave until after lunch we took some time this morning to drive into Lake Lure proper. We wanted to visit the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge one more time ... even in it's destroyed state. The Bridge has meant so much to us over that years and it's very sad to see it in its current state. Hopefully by the time we return possibly October 2026 they will have restored the Bridge somewhat. It'll never be what it once was ... but maybe it'll be even better.
On the drive into the town we took the twisty, turny road. And on that road was this lovely White-tailed doe eating along the side of the road. We had never seen any deer along this road before and I was thrilled to be able to get some pictures of her.
I've added into Extras a collage of some of my other favorite shots of the day. The Tufted Titmouse was enjoying some of the peanuts I had put on the railing of our deck. I love his looking right at me look ... with tuft up. The top right is a view of the lake from our condo. And the bottom right shows an American Goldfinch in his full summer yellow. This is the first goldfinch we have seen this year with the bright yellow coloring. They lose this brightness in the cold winter months so it was good to see him ... even if we weren't at home! And I've added another shot of the Tufted Titmouse to my Facebook feed.
We were checked out of our resort and on the road by 1:30 pm ... and arrived in Staunton, VA by 7:30 pm. Home tomorrow ...
Backblipped: April 11 ... one and only backblip for this vacation! I'm so proud of myself!
