Backblip: Vinci

This tour is focussed on Science and the Renaissance, so this morning we visited Leonardo da Vinci’s reputed birthplace, up the hill from the town of Vinci. All very rural, I heard my first cuckoo of the year, and then a redstart singing. This view is taken from the top of the castle in Vinci itself. It houses a museum of mechanical objects, all based on Leonardo’s drawings of machines, In his thinking he was way ahead of his time. This week all of Italy’s schoolchildren seem to be out on tours of museums and historical sites, the museum was very busy at times.

This afternoon Pisa, and the Piazza dei Miracoli, a place of experimentation for Galileo.
