Nicky and her Nikon

Shadows and light

It was sunny again but colder than expected today, there was a cold wind this morning that caught some people by surprise when they thought it would be T shirt weather.

I got the train to Wimbledon for my appointment with the hand and wrist surgeon. He had the results of the MRI scan with him and explained that the cartilage between two tiny bones on the edge of my wrist is damaged and inflamed, as the bones are rubbing against each other causing pain. The good news is that he does not think it was caused by golf - more likely from a fall (even one years ago) or a sudden stress-causing movement, and then exacerbated from any pushing kind of motion and using my hands in a weight bearing position. Using weights has made it worse, and now things like pushing door handles down or pushing doors open is very painful. The plan of action is to avoid all action where the wrist is stressed in those kind of positions and to use an max strength ibuprofen gel on the affected area every day. If it is no better in about 2 months then I will have to have a steroid injection, and if that doesn't work it will require surgery whereby they remove one of the tiny bones that is knocking against the other bones - but surgery is the last option and to be avoided if possible. I exercise nearly every day, and using weights is very much part of my program to improve bone density, so I have to rethink which exercises I can do - certainly no push-ups, they are the worst for my wrist.

I am delighted that it is not caused by golf - although he reiterated that hitting off mats at a driving range is not great, it is better to be playing off grass. So I can play golf again although my tennis elbow is still painful and that is affected when I play golf, so maybe I should rest that for for a while. Not playing golf today was beneficial to my elbow.

The shadows in the sunshine were perfect today for the WidWed challenge.

I finished watching season 3 of White Lotus last night. I thought it was clever and enjoyed it. The ending has had mixed reviews, and some critics say the series is starting to become formulaic with transgressive sex scenes and with ridiculously rich people behaving badly, but that doesn't bother me as I think all TV series become formulaic.

I am also enjoying reading/listening to The Lion Women of Tehran, a great tale of life in Iran before the revolution.
