Tuesday: Architecture
Up to South Kensington for K’s appointment at the Royal Marsden. In addition to blood tests, she also had a lengthy appointment with the doctor and a member of the nursing team which was very helpful. Everything starts properly next week. K feels pretty pragmatic about it, preparing to take it as things come as everyone’s experience is so individual.
A bit of time awake in the night and the trip to the hospital have enabled me to finish a book in 24 hours, ‘Wave’ by Sonali Deraniyagala. ‘Enjoyed’ is not the right word for it but it is totally compelling.
She started writing it, not as a book, but at the suggestion of her therapist, as a way of processing the loss of her husband, two children and parents in the 2004 tsunami. It’s very raw in its grief but also is wonderful in bringing together just how little moments make a life together. I can really recommend it. The author is now married to the actress, Fiona Shaw.
And, for the benefit of those who feel nostalgia for such things, I have deliberately included a Black Cab in this photo. You’re welcome.
