A haunting reminder of macabre past
This watchtower situated in a corner of the old graveyard, is ignored by tourists visiting Callander in the heart of The Trossachs.
But it hides a dark history. This is where the nightwatchman stayed to guard the cemetery from grave robbers. For fresh bodies were in demand by the medical students in Edinburgh and robbing graves was a lucrative business in the 1880s.
This afternoon, we walked along the Crags above Callander. We could not park at Bracklin Falls because the good weather attracted many visitors.
